What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help sites remember your preferences, keep you signed in, and understand how the site is used. This policy explains which cookies Meridian uses and how you can control them. It was last updated in September 2026.

Cookies we use

Strictly essential cookies

These are required for the site to function and cannot be switched off. They include cookies that keep you signed in, remember your cookie-consent choice itself, protect forms against spam and forgery, and balance site traffic. The site will not work properly without them.

Preference cookies

These remember choices you make to improve your experience β€” for example, your theme preference (light or dark mode) and your selected country or content preferences. They are set only when you make such a choice, and the site works without them.

Analytics cookies (only with your consent)

These help us understand aggregate readership β€” which articles are popular, which categories draw interest, roughly where readers are located (country or city level). They are privacy-conscious: we do not use them to build advertising profiles or track you across other websites. Analytics cookies are only set if you accept them in our consent banner. If you decline, we measure only fully anonymized, aggregate server-side counts that cannot identify you.

What we do not use

We do not use third-party advertising cookies, cross-site tracking cookies, or social-media tracking pixels. We do not sell cookie data.

Managing your preferences

When you first visit Meridian, a consent banner lets you accept or decline non-essential cookies. You can change your mind at any time:

  • Use the "Cookie settings" link in the site footer to reopen your preferences and update your choices.
  • Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies through their own settings (usually under Privacy or Settings). Note that blocking essential cookies may break sign-in and other core features.

Withdrawing consent for analytics stops future analytics cookies from being set; it does not retroactively delete aggregate statistics already collected, which contain no personal identifiers.

How long cookies last

Session cookies expire when you close your browser. Preference and consent cookies typically last up to 12 months, after which we will ask for your preferences again. Analytics cookies, where consented to, expire after a maximum of 13 months.
